Back In Action!

I'm BACK from treatment and in better shape than ever! I couldn't have asked for a better treatment facility, it was sad leaving the warm weather of Arizona to come back to the cooler weather of Chicago but now it's getting nice out.

The program was amazing. I never knew anything about the 12 steps and this program was based around the 12 steps. I learned all about them and have been putting them into practice. I'm not an alcoholic or an addict but I am a codependent. My self-esteem thrives off of helping other people but through Codependents Anonymous (CODA) I am learning to not let my rescuing behavior measure my self-worth. 

One of the best things about the 12 steps is that it is a spiritual program, not religious. I never knew that before. I always resisted because I thought it was religious but I learned it is about accepting a higher power as you understand it. My higher power is nature, more specifically horses. There are times when I am around horses and I don't feel like I am in my own body anymore, I am connected to something else. That is something that is vital to recovery... having a sense of spirituality. I never had that before. 

A lot of things don't make sense and people just kept telling me to work the steps and trust them and it was hard to do because how can I blindly trust anything? I am going to continue working the steps and hope I don't relapse, I made some great friends in Arizona and I don't want to relapse. No recovery is perfect but mine is off to a good start.
