Hair color: It isn't just about the looks

By

I've been dying my hair since I was a freshman in high school. I am a natural blonde... nobody believes me because of my bright red hair or occasional brown with a reddish tint hair that I always have. These people do not know that I have Scandanavian and Russian heritage which brings about my fair complexion and light hair. However, I choose to not have this light hair anymore, not because it doesn't look good, but because it's not like me.

I've never been much of a clothes-horse. I can't be described as much of a fashion guru despite how much I like looking at the pictures in Vogue and Elle, I am a horrible dresser. The way I express myself is through my hair color. I've gone through so many hair colors in the past five years I cannot count the many shades of blonde, brown, purple, red, almost black, and other colors I tried out.

Currently I sport bright red hair. I think red suits my personality best of all the natural hair colors (brown, blonde, black, red). I think red hair makes me different, it supports my outgoing and loud personality. I'm definitely not a person to upset and there is that saying, "never upset a redhead." I also feel so much more me in red hair. I feel like I'm not hiding behind some boring facade of my natural blonde.

I like the red because it's different. It's a lot like me and other colors just don't fit me right. Hair color should describe your personality and not hide who you are. That's why I am happy to be a redhead and I don't care that it's not natural... it's what I was meant to be.

Does your hair color fit your personality?

  • Yes!
  • I guess... I never really thought about it.
  • I don't care.
  • No.
