Is it part of human nature to resist change?
67I have several theories on human nature and one of them is that humans are afraid of change. Change is scary, the fear of the unknown can destroy a person's life.
One example of a fear of change is death. Sometimes people don't necessarily think of this as a change but the state of living to death is a change. When a person dies it is difficult to believe that they are gone. Someone close to you dies and the change is so hard to grasp that it becomes fear. I am personally afraid of this right now. I have a fear that I could lose my beloved horse right now and if I do, my life won't be the same. And that's what scares me: that feeling of losing security.
Changing things is scary. The fear of the unknown is something that no one wants to face. It's easier to sit with your happy or even unhappy feelings at the moment than possible future emotions that we do not know. How do we know how we will react to something that hasn't happened yet? No matter how unhappy you might be in the here and now, you have no idea what you may feel in the future. It's a risk to take not to know what you will feel.
People fear change: it's part of the human condition.

I know it must be very tough for you and I do understand. I'm sending lots of love of good health your way. Show him all the love and understanding.
You are right: It is human nature to resist any change. But this is not only the case with humans, every system, from the single cell to the biggest, like companies, organisations and even states. They all are defending themselves in their established structure against influences that might cause some change. That makes understanding, growing and even evolution so difficult. If we have experienced this within ourselves and are understanding this as part of our inbuilt nature, then we are capable to observe our defence mechanism and then we can use our willpower to overcome obstacles, but the usual is to reject even the simplest information if it doesn't fit into our already established pictures: of ourselves, our world view, attitudes, habits and every thing we have stored in our concepts. My hubs are going around this topic... And I am not so much surprised that there are no responses, because my intention I'm writing about, is to inspire and provoke people to look at themselves for the reason why they are not happy and content - and not give the fault for their disappointment to the outside and other people. That would need a change and so people resist and ignore my hubs...
fear of change is part of the human condition, like lust, trust, hate, jeolousy,
We started a new life in another Country. We took all our horses with us as well as our dogs. We was lucky to be able to afford this new life and had everything to look forward to. The day we got here was the same day our horses and dogs arrived. One horse a pure Andalusian Stallion we put into a pen for the night. The next day we turned him out into his new field.
He jumped the hedge and landed an 8foot drop into a ditch. We new no one and had no means to get him out of the ditch as he would not stand up. Luckly a new neighbour came over to help. The horse was pulled out of the ditch with a tractor, but still he would not get up. The Vet was called but I already new, he had lost the use of his hind legs. The Vet quickly shot him. I cried my heart out. That was over four months ago. I still think of him and it still hurts but I cannot dwell on him. Sometimes you just have to let go, no matter how hard it hurts.

You're right. We all fear the unknown. We're afraid we won't know what to do or how to act. The uncertainty can be maddening.
I've lost a child. There was no way I could have ever been prepared for it. It was, without a doubt, the toughest thing I've ever had to endure. But, I'm a stronger person today because of it. You do what you have to do. It's a survival instinct. (I have a few hubs about grief if you're interested.)
Did my life change? Sure. Do I miss him? Absolutely.
I hope your horse recovers fully. But, I assure you, you are capable of handling whatever happens. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for.
Hang in there, kiddo.
