The Great Dane

I have never owned a great dane but it has always been my dream to do so. I've owned labs, spaniels, mixes, etc, but no matter what I always was in love with the breed of the great dane.
First off, I am a big fan of BIG DOGS! If it's a little tiny dog like a maltese, it's not a dog! Or it's just a cheap... or I guess really expensive excuse for a dog. I hate that little yippy bark those little dogs have. When you get a big dog like a great dane, you get a great big bark that means you've got a real dog on your hands.
Another reason I love the great dane is that despite it's size, it is not a dog that needs tons of exercise. I currently own a brittany spaniel, a black lab, a boxer, and a french bulldog/beagle mix. All four of them need constant stimulation and constant exercise to the point where if I didn't have such a huge family, I have NO IDEA what I would do to keep them entertained. I will admit, I had fun training my brittany agility training but then he grew to big to be considered a small dog which most brittanys are which was a lot of training down the toilet. The great dane really just likes to lay around and likes love. I don't mean that they don't need walks, but they don't need four walks a day. They are just happy with a place that they can soak up the sun.
Finally, I don't know if you've ever looked at a great dane but they are so cute. As puppies and as adults. Most puppies lose their cute factor over time, not this breed. This breed stays adorable despite their size their entire life.

Its been my dream to have a great dane the problem is im only 4'5 so it would knock me over and i agree i hate those little bark so annoying
You certainly have your hands full!
Any tips on putting weight on a Great Dane? I have a 6 year old male. Only had him for a year. I think he must have come from a good home, but for some reason got passed on and I have ended up with him. He came to me very thin, poor appetite, docked tail, castrated and has some scar where his stomach is. I have had him to the Vet's and put him on a diet of Chum Puppy food and Rice. He is wormed regular but still is thin and some day's picks at his food.
He lives outside in his own large Kennel which has cosy bedding and he wears a pony coat. He seems ver happy and playful but I hate to see him so thin.
Robbswater, i have a Great Dane puppy named Turbo and he will stay on the same diet for nearly his whole life...
breakfast: adult dry food
snack: skim milk (i'm not sure what it will change to yet(we will ask the breeders))
lunch:chicken wings and/or chicken necks...MUST BE RAW
dinner: vegetables, rice/pasta and minced meat
because i only have a puppy i can not help you with proportions

You gotta get a Great Dane! I have two now. I've written several articles about the breed. I see we also have horses in common!
